On the Kirb, Houston sports bar with healthy food, opening in Katy

A sports bar that only serves organic, healthy food will soon be opening in Katy.

On the Kirb, which already has two other Houston-area locations, will open at 25230 Farm to Market 1093 in mid-July. The bar’s name is a nod to the restaurant’s first location in Upper Kirby.

Owner Joe Arbeely says the restaurants specialize in serving fresh local produce, organic meats and free range poultry, offering an alternative to the mass-produced frozen foods that are traditionally offered at sports bars.

As the name suggests, they’re always located on street corners.

“We wanted in the beginning for this concept to create a fun environment sports bar that has really healthy options for everybody,” Arbeely said. “Our locations on Kirby and in Midtown have done really well, so we’ve seen that it’s a concept that people really want.”

On the Kirb’s menu includes brunch favorites, burgers, wraps, pizzas and other speciality entrees, all of which are made with hormone-free ingredients.

Entrees start at $18, while On the Kirb’s signature cocktails start at $9. The restaurant also offers beer and organic wines.

“We’re essentially a sports bar that’s a healthier choice,” he said. “We focus on sports by showing games and UFC fights, and we never charge a cover.”

The inside of the restaurant has walls covered in 300-inch TVs. For outdoor dining, On the Kirb offers a 2,500-square-foot patio.

As a Fulshear resident, Arbeely said he’s looking forward to opening a restaurant near his home to serve his community.

“Katy and Fulshear are just growing at an alarming rate, and with that growth, people want to see more options,” he said. “What we offer is unlike anything in the area, and I think people in Katy are really going to enjoy coming here.”
