SURRY, Va. (WAVY) — A new grocery retail outlet is coming to Surry County.
Leaders are operating to incorporate a grocery keep to the local community in an effort and hard work to eliminate the county’s designation as a foodstuff desert. It is all aspect of the county’s in depth strategy to “continue its attempts to draw in a grocery shop and construct a community heart to tackle these well being problems.”
Officials argue that “compared to the normal Virginian, Surry people have far more constrained entry to nutritious meals and work out opportunities.”
The grocery keep is possible via a blend of grant and town income. They were awarded a $300,000 grant that the Surry County Board of Supervisors committed to matching.
The county also obtained an more grant for $107,000.
Officers say the plan is to transform the previous components retailer in Surry into a community sector/grocery retail outlet. Surry Marketplace LLC, which owns the constructing, signed an arrangement with United All-natural Meals, Inc.
